A Brief History of Burntisland
5 Mayc.AD 83 - Roman commander Agricola is said to have established a naval base at the natural harbour at what is now Burntisland
12th Century - a castle and church are established close to the harbour at Kirkton.
1541 - Burntisland is granted a royal charter by James V.
1560 - The English blockade French ships and troops in the town.
1601 - The General Assembly at which the King James Edition of the Bible is proposed, is held at Burntisland.
1651 - Cromwell takes Burntisland after a naval bombardment.
1667 - The Dutch bombard the town in retaliation to local shipmasters acting as privateers.
1850 - The world's first rail ferry, The Leviathan, links Burntisland with Granton.
1925 - Burntisland Shipyard Amateur Football Club is formed.
2002 - The aluminium plant, opened in 1917, closes.
2010 - s1burntisland is launched to let residents discuss local issues, place small ads, air their opinions, advertise events and show off pictures and video.
