Burntisland stars in It's a Knockout - 1969
It's not often that Burntisland stars in one of the UK's most popular TV, but that's what happened in 1969, when a team from Burntisland took part in an episode of the BBC's 'It's a Knockout', with the local team taking on rivals from Dunbar in a UK heat of the pan-European show.
The programme was the fourth in the 1969 series of It's a Knockout, and the games were played at Dunbar on Sunday 1st June 1969. The programme was broadcast on BBC1 on the following Wednesday, 4th June at 7.30pm.
The programme was a closely fought contest, and ended in a tie - with Burntisland unfortunately beaten on the toss of a disc used to settle the result. The winning team from Dunbar went on to take part in an edition of the European show, Jeux Sans Frontieres in August.
